personality depths traits; Zahra is a very peaceful mare. She is small and delicate physically, but has a strong and noble personality, wanting to do what it morally and ethically right whenever possible. She adores nature and feels a strong connection with it, namely flowers. Zahra can be described as spiritual as well, having a strong belief in an afterlife and believing that good deeds and a gentle soul are both key points in what will guide her and others to heaven, when the time comes for them to leave their physical bodies. Death does not frighten her. Do what you will to her, but Zahra will never be afraid to die. She is very much at peace with the thought of death, having come to terms with the fact that everyone will die at a very young age. In stressful situations, she can stay surprisingly calm, even taking charge if there is no one else around that can do so. However, there is a catch to this. In regular, everyday social situations, Zahra falters. She does not know why, but all of her life she had struggled with socializing with others, feeling a near crippling anxiety when meeting new equines and this anxiety never goes away completely, no matter how well she knows someone. She will always feel a sense of anxiousness around others during social events. Despite that, she's as sweet as can be, typically playing a more submissive role, as she believes a woman should do, only becoming a leader if the time calls for it. mental health; Social anxiety
history; Zahra was born into a nomadic harem made up of all mares and one stallion. The only other males in the herd had been colts under the age of two. At two years of age, they received a blessing and were sent off to find their own mares to start a harem. Zahra loved it, she adored her mother and her father, though she had gotten along best with her father. He was the one that taught her all about plants and animals, that answered every question she had about life and death, filling her head with fantastical stories of Paradise and of the beings that lived there after they passed on from their physical bodies. Amira, her mother, was never approving of the girl's close relationship with her father, blaming Salim for the girl's failing social life. This caused a rift between the two of them and Zahra feared that her mother would be exiled from the harem and that she would be forced to go with her. By the time she was a yearling, Zahra decided she would force herself to try and speak with the other yearlings in the herd. This proved to be too much to her and she began to have panic attacks which lead to a bout of depression that lasted for half a year. She secluded herself until her father came to her, demanding that she stop feeling sorry for herself. He told her that her mother had been exiled from the herd but she was free to stay. After all, Zahra was his favorite daughter. She was pleased to hear this, and she went on listening to the stories her father had to tell her, hoping that her life would go on peacefully.
There came the time a few months shy of her fourth birthday when male suitors began coming to her father asking to Zahra, wanting the beautiful dappled bay minx to join their harem. Not liking any of the possible suitors, Salim refused, demanding that they leave his daughter alone. However, there was one slightly older male, around six year old, with a pelt ask dark as the night sky and eyes as blue as the deepest ocean, that came not asking for Zahra to join his harem, but merely to speak with her. He requested to be allowed to go for a walk with her, with an elder mare of the herd as a chaperon and Salim, impressed with this young boy, agreed. The two hit it off immediately, despite Zahra's social anxiety. Tariq did not laugh at her nor mock her and was patient with her as she warmed up to him. By the time their walk came to an end, Zahra was smiling, laughing at the boy's jokes, and when they were approached by Salim, he agreed that Amira could have his daughter once her fourth year started.
Sadly, this never came to be, for just a few mere days before her fourth birthday a horrendous earthquake shook the lands. The earth split and the equines were thrown to their knees. Many deaths occurred and the harem was separated, leaving Zahra alone for the first time in her life. Unsure of where to go, and unable to find anyone that she knew, she began to wander.
