traits; Despite his massive size and intimidating looks, Jaws is... delicate, I suppose, would be a good way to describe it. Not soft, not quite, but there's something about him that just seems so fragile. A haunted look in those pretty blue eyes of his that never seems to brighten, nor fade away. He looks like he's on the verge of screaming half the time - and perhaps he is, considering the ghosts that haunt him. After all, when traumatic life events happen again and again and again, it's a little difficult to keep putting yourself back together. But oh, how he's tried! And he will continue to try, because at his heart he's a fighter, a warrior, something that refuses to give up or give in no matter how badly it hurts and my god, does it hurt... He yearns for love and kindness and compassion and yet, the thought of opening his heart to someone - again - is the most terrifying thing in the world to him. He does not think he could handle heartbreak again. That is the one thing that might actually, truly break him if it happens again. So while he's friendly enough, perhaps more on the reclusive and quiet side, he also guards his heart heavily. The second he feels himself starting to grow any sort of romantic attachment to somebody again... he runs. He runs and he hides and he refuses to confront those terrible, awful, and frightening feelings. Because love is predatory and it hurts and it kills a slow and painful death. Jaws does not want to ever go through heartache again. He does not want to go through the agony of piecing himself together all because someone else couldn't put the same amount of effort into something that seemed so... so real. So perfect. But perfection isn't real, and in his mind now, neither is love. He would rather be rotting underground than fall in love ever again.

history; It started off like any other life. Just your average wild herd of horses. A group of nomads, about 15 altogether. Sometimes new members would join, and some would leave, but on average the number stayed about the same. They all looked out for one another. They did their best to survive under harsh conditions. When someone passed, they were mourned, and the herd would stay an extra night or two with the fallen herd member - a tradition that supposedly helped the soul to truly find peace in the afterlife, giving them the courage to "find the light." They did not bury their dead, but rather, left their bodies (as gruesome as it sounds) to feed the carnivores that might not otherwise have food. Vultures and other various scavengers. The nomadic group were at peace with death. Once someone died, they no longer needed their bodies, so might as well let it go to some use. Jaws saw several deaths in the herd. Went through this tradition time after time. He knew grief and pain, especially after the passing of his mother when he was just about 2 years old. His father had left several months ago and never returned, assumed he never would, which meant that Jaws was now left to be raised by the herd. They did not mind - they considered him family, even if they didn't have blood relation to him.
He was 3 years old when he met her. Jade. She was his age, with wild green eyes and decorated with ribbons and gems that glistened against her sleek black coat. She was stunning and fierce and captivated him from the moment she stumbled into their encampment. She was exhausted but still held herself with pride. Shorter than himself, at no more than 15 or so hands, she should have looked fragile - instead, she looked like the most powerful horse he'd ever seen in his life. She claimed to have fled a warring Kingdom and was looking for a safe place to stay. The nomads invited her to stay with them, for however long she needed. Jaws was excited when she accepted. From the moment he saw her, he was enthralled by her. He introduced himself after she'd gotten some rest. She was just as confident and cool and he'd expected. There was a constant sparkle of mischief in her eyes. For the first time since his mother's passing, he felt a connection with someone. They became fast friends, always together and when they were apart, it was never for long.
Jade and Jaws. Before long, you could not have one around without the other soon following. Attached at the hip, the elder nomads smiled. "Ah, young love!" they would say, cooing at their adorableness, at their affection. It did not take more than half a year before they announced themselves as mates. Not even 4 years old and already he'd found his true love. His soulmate. They were planning to try for kids in the following year, to give themselves some time to really work on their relationship without having to worry about raising a kid. They planned on having at least three, if Jade could handle it. She'd always wanted a set of twins, too - a boy and a girl, preferably. It was her dream. And Jaws? Well, he would give her the moon, if he could! He would give her anything! He did give her everything.
And then? She broke him.
It was shortly after Jaw's 4th birthday. There had been no change in their relationship, everything seemed to be going well, but then one day Jade came to him and the spark had left her eyes. Worried for his love, he reached out to comfort her, but she shied away from him - as if he might hurt her. She admitted that she had been cheating on him for the last several months. Even worse... she was pregnant, and she was fairly certain that the child growing in her womb did not belong to Jaws. They had been careful to avoid intimacy during any of her heat cycles, since she'd claimed to not be ready for kids just yet, and Jaws wanted to give her as much time as she needed. In that moment, Jaws felt his world shatter. He could feel his heart breaking. All he could do was stare at her. She did not even cry. She looked... well, she looked like she pitied him. But she didn't look remorseful. Jaws wanted to believe it was some sort of joke, a test of his loyalty to her or something, but he could tell by the dullness in her eyes when she looked at him that it was over. They were over.
He had grieved several deaths before, but how did you mourn someone that was still alive? Someone that you saw every day? Watching as they carried on with their life as if nothing had happened? Her barrel was growing bigger week after week. Larger than the typical pregnancy. Rumors began to be murmured that she was carrying twins. It was another stab to the heart when he heard those rumors. He did not have it in him to stick around for the delivery of the baby - or babies. To this day, he does not know if she had twins. He doesn't want to know. He wishes he could just forget her, forget everything. He wishes he had never met her and given her his heart so readily.
He fled in the night, saying goodbye to no one. He felt immense guilt, leaving the nomads behind - and even guilt for leaving Jade, because he still loved her deeply - but he couldn't stand it any longer. He traveled as far as he could that first night, wanting to put as much distance between himself and Jade as possible. And again the next two days, pushing himself almost beyond his limits, exhausted to a dangerous level every night. He allowed himself one day of rest before another three days of heavy travel. He repeated this process until, eventually, he came to a new realm. He does not know if he will ever go back home, or hear from anyone back home. He does not know if he will ever settle anywhere again. He only hopes he can find some sort of peace here.
